Let’s talk about Harm Reduction.

We completely understand that there is some stigma around harm reduction initiatives, but we are also in the field of bringing education to communities about the various types, what they offer, and how they can also make for safer communities.

For example:

    • Harm reduction can reduce overdose deaths and infectious disease transmissions.
    • Harm reduction reduces stigma with people who use substances which increases the likelihood they will seek treatment.
    • Harm reduction is an evidence-based approach that promotes any positive change.

Some ways you use harm reduction in your day-to-day:

    • Most of us put a seatbelt on when you get in the car.
    • We use sunscreen to prevent skin conditions.
    • Using life vests on boats.
    • Using nicotine patches or gum, rather than smoking.
    • You wear shoes to protect the bottom of your feet.
    • Brush your teeth to prevent cavities.
    • And so on.

What types of harm reduction things do we offer?

    • Naloxone (a.k.a. Narcan) kits and trainings, along with PAN Boxes for community areas.
    • Methadone, a daily Medication for Opioid Use Disorders (MOUD).
    • Person centered treatment plans.
    • Medication lock boxes for safe storage at home.
    • Deterra Medication Deactivation Pouches.
    • Fentanyl and Xylazine test strips.
    • No, we do not offer safe injection locations.
There were more than 100,000 drug-involved overdose deaths in 2023.

What is Narcan?

Narcan is short for Naloxone and is used to reverse an overdose.

Why is it important to get trained in Narcan? Since 1999, overdose deaths have increased at an alarming rate. By getting trained in Narcan, you could save a life.

Who can get trained in Narcan? Anyone! We offer Narcan training to individuals, community groups, office staff, school administration, law enforcement and more!

How Much Does Training Cost? It is free!

What are PAN Boxes?

PAN is short for Public Access Narcan and holds up to 3 Narcan kits inside.

Where do PAN Boxes Get Installed? Community areas, such as a shopping mall, arena, college campus, or anywhere you can find an AED Machine. Having emergency equipment near each other can make all the difference when trying to help someone.

How Much Do PAN Boxes Cost? They are free and we can replace stock as needed!

Why do we offer test strips?

Safety is important to us. If someone is still in active addiction and is going to use, knowing whether or not the product they have is laced with something can be life or death. By offering testing strips, it may cause someone not to use, knowing that what they have is laced with a Fentanyl or Xylazine.

Seven out of every ten pills siezed by the DEA contain a lethal amount of Fenanyl.

Let’s talk about medication safety.

Medication Lock Boxes

Ensuring you’re keeping your prescriptions locked and safe prevents kids or other adults from accessing them. Each lock box is free and comes with a combination cap, so it’s easy to open.

Deterra Medication Deactivation Pouch

These handy pouches are the best! They are eco friendly and offer a safe way to deactivate pills, pouches and cough syrup, to where you can toss the pouch in the trash and not harm the environment.

How much do they cost? These are completely free to the communities we serve!

How can I get a lock box our deactivation pouch? Please reach out to Chelsea at cmenio@casa-trinity.org
