Drug Free Community Coalition of Chemung County
The Coalition's mission is to prevent and reduce the use/abuse of underage alcohol, tobacco, illicit drug use within Chemung County by reducing risk factors and increasing protective factors. The Coalition utilizes evidence-based environmental strategies and programs. The Coalition's vision is to have a drug free community in Chemung County.
Currently, the Coalition meets monthly on the last Wednesday of every month from 10 am to 11:30 am at the Chemung County Health Department.
Recent efforts by the Coalition have included:
- The promotion and education within the community many different Medication Drop Boxes that are located in the county:
- The education of prescription drugs that stresses the importance of monitoring, securing, and disposal of medications;
- The interpretation of data from the 2017 Prevention Needs Assessment (PNA) surveys. The PNA surveys covered 3 of the 4 major schools within Chemung County, grades 8, 10 and 12.
The Drug Free Community Coalition of Chemung County continuously works on community partnership and collaboration to make a healthier and safer county for all!
