No one ever wakes up suddenly and decides to become addicted to a substance. Addiction happens over time and is dependent on how the drug(s) changes the brain chemistry. The Prevention department recognizes that from time to time, certain drugs capture our attention. However, data from over 10 years of surveys on the regional and national level confirm that early first time use and introduction to one of the three categories of drugs can lead to exposure to other substances. Those drugs are:
- Underage drinking of alcohol;
- Marijuana use;
- Prescription drug abuse.
Most of CASA-Trinity's prevention efforts focus on youth ages 8-12 grade. The links under this heading offer a realistic of substance use among 8-12 graders in CASA-Trinity's service area.
Prevention Services also provides information about a wider variety of substances. Please contact us through the form on this page for more information.
